['fjuːdʒətɪvz; englisch »Flüchtlinge«], Agrarians [ə'greəriənz], Southerners ['sʌȓənəz], eine Gruppe konservativer Schriftsteller des amerikanischen Südens, die sich v. a. an der Vanderbilt University in Nashville (Tennessee) um die Zeitschrift »The Fugitive« (1922-25) bildete. Ihre Weltsicht verband Kritik an der modernen Industriegesellschaft mit der Idealisierung des agrarischen Lebens in den amerikanischen Südstaaten vor dem Sezessionskrieg; entsprechend forderten sie die Rückbesinnung auf die Tradition, die dem modernen Zerfall von Religion, Kultur und Kunst entgegengesetzt werden sollte. Ihre Ideen finden sich auch in dem Sammelband »I'll take my stand« (1930, herausgegeben von J. C. Ransom). Einflussreich waren die Fugitives (v. a. Ransom, A. Tate, R. P. Warren, Laura H. Riding) aufgrund ihrer Lyrik und ihrer Literaturkritik (New Criticism).
